On November 17, the Council of Avilés introduced the new free digital identification APP PIDA (Plataforma Identificación Digital Avilés), developed by Zitycard in collaboration with Telefónica , and using blockchain technology. PIDA will allow users to identify themselves and access municipal sports facilities with their mobile phones. The app is available for free on Android and iOS devices.
The citizens of Avilés will be able to generate a digital identity and turn their device into a citizen identification card, which will allow them to access sports facilities through the turnstiles managed by the Municipal Sports Foundation. This virtual card does not replace the traditional access method, as it is completely voluntary, and aims to continue evolving over time by incorporating services such as: citizen ATMs, libraries, bicycles, among others.
Raquel Ruiz, the Councillor for General Administration of Avilés, mentioned during the APP presentation that “the goal is to improve the quality of service that the City Council provides to citizens, simplifying procedures and management for using municipal services through a unique, multi-device virtual card, which can be used on mobile apps and other compatible devices.
The project has been co-financed by the European Union's FEDER Funds, within the Sustainable Urban Development Strategy (EDUSI), complying with Spanish and European regulations such as: the Spanish Disability Strategy, the European Union's Climate and Energy for 2030 strategy, the European Union’s Climate Change Adaptation Strategy, Spain's National Climate Change Adaptation Plan, the Spanish Sustainable Development Strategy, and Article 8, Regulation 1303/2014/EU on Common Provisions.
